AI, Automation and Cyber Security for Smaller Businesses

Straight answers about AI and cyber.

Practical help for smaller businesses. No jargon, no scare stories, and prices published before you get in touch.

Who We Work With

You do not need an IT team to make a good decision

Three situations account for most of the calls we get.

01

Your team uses AI, and nobody set the rules

Staff are pasting work into free tools because it saves time. Nobody decided that was allowed, and nobody knows what has gone into them.

02

A client is asking how you protect their data

A security questionnaire has landed, or a contract renewal has conditions attached, and you are not sure what an honest answer looks like.

03

People are doing work a machine could do

Someone spends a day a week retyping the same information between two systems, and everyone has stopped noticing what it costs.

Why Rossnet

You will be working with one named person

Rossnet is a small independent practice led by Dr Joseph Ross. The work you buy is the work he does — there is no team of juniors behind the proposal.

  • PhD — Digital Transformation & Artificial Intelligence
  • CITP FBCS — Chartered IT Professional and Fellow of the BCS
  • Qualified teacher — secondary through to Master’s level
  • CISMP — Information Security Management
  • Former Director — South West Cyber Resilience Centre

Research work for the Ministry of Defence, a cyber assurance assessment for a UK police force, and several years directing a police-led Cyber Resilience Centre set up to help smaller businesses.

Common Questions

The questions we get asked most

Are we too small for this?

No. Most of the smaller organisations we work with have no IT department at all. Prices are banded by size so a six-person firm is not paying for a fifty-person engagement.

We have already paid for Copilot. Is that money wasted?

Usually not. The problem is rarely the tool — it is licences nobody uses because no one showed the team how it fits their actual work.

Do you sell software?

Rossnet resells some security and cloud products, and those relationships include commercial margin. That is set out in the Trust Centre. No client is required to buy through us, and recommendations are made on technical fit.

Is the price fixed?

For fixed-scope services, yes — confirmed in writing before work starts. Services shown as from vary with the size of the job and are quoted after a short conversation.

What actually changes at 2035 for encryption?

The NCSC has set a national timeline for moving off today’s encryption, which quantum computers are expected to break: planning by 2028, priority upgrades by 2031, full migration by 2035. For most small businesses the work is knowing which suppliers carry that risk on your behalf.
